Midsumma Festival 2027 - Funding Application

About the Midsumma Festival

Council invites expressions of interest from any Banyule Traders Association to deliver the 2027 Midsumma Event during Melbourne's annual Midsumma Festival between 17 January and 7 February 2027.

The annual Midsumma Festival brings together a diverse mix of LGBTIQA+ artists, performers, communities and audiences to share and celebrate queer culture, history, ideas and stories through art and performance.

To learn more about the history and purpose of the Midsumma Festival can be found here: https://www.midsumma.org.au/about/about-midsumma/

Up to $50,000 including GST is available to deliver an event.

The event must achieve the outcomes described in the Funding and Service Agreement and align with Midsumma Festival's strategic priorities.

Traders Associations with an outstanding debt to Council or outstanding grant acquittals are not eligible to apply.

Health and Wellbeing Plan

Council has long recognised the richness that diverse communities bring to Banyule. However, for some like the LGBTIQA+ community, a range of community and society level barriers exist and these barriers limit opportunities to share their creative culture.

Banyule’s Health and Wellbeing Priorities (2025-2029) outline Council’s commitment to fostering social connections and building respectful communities. Council strive to support:

  1. Targeted social connection and belonging activities
  2. Intergenerational, intracultural and intercultural connections
  3. Opportunities for people to form relationships and express themselves
  4. Actions raise visibility, celebrating and building awareness of our diverse communities through supporting community led neighbourhood actions that encourage diverse communities to come together to learn, share culture, celebrate and foster social connection.
