Want to host the 2027 Banyule Midsumma event?

The Banyule Council is excited to announce the opportunity for Traders Associations to apply for funding to host the 2027 Midsumma Festival event in Banyule. This event aims to support LGBTIQA+ community participation and inclusion. We are looking for creative and innovative proposals that will make the festival a memorable and inclusive celebration for all.

In February 2026, the Greensborough Chamber of Commerce hosted a vibrant and welcoming Sunset Pride Party as part of the Midsumma Festival. This unique, inclusive, and family-friendly event brought together around 1,000 joyful attendees at the Greensborough Walk.

Funding Available: $50,000 including GST

Event must be delivered between: January 17 to February 7, 2027

We invite you to pitch your event idea that:

• Showcases Local Talent: Provide a platform for local LGBTIQA+ artists and performers to share their culture and stories.
• Fosters Inclusion: Create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space for LGBTIQA+ individuals and their allies to come together.
• Engages the Community: Develop activities and experiences that engage and inspire the community.

Submission Guidelines:

Please prepare your application in response to the criteria above by 11pm Sunday 02 August 2026. Please submit your proposal via SmartyGrants.

Please include in your response:

• A brief description of your event idea
• Key contact for further discussion
• If possible, an image or map of the proposed event location
• Any other supporting information to assist with the assessment of the application.

Selection Criteria:

Your proposal will be assessed against the following criteria:

1. Visibility, Awareness and Inclusion: The event will support the LGBTIQA+ community to express themselves authentically and visibly within the community and will showcase LGBTIQA+ inclusive practices.
2. Practicality: The proposal can be delivered within the agreed timeframe and budget.
3. Connection: The event responds to one of objectives of the Midsumma Festival.
4. Creativity: A unique event idea that caters to the diverse needs of LGBTIQA+ individuals, families, and communities.
